RUMAHREVIEW.com Onno Widodo Purbo, Praktisi IT Indonesia, Berbicara mengenai perkembangan teknologi seolah tak pernah lepas dengan seorang pakar kelahiran  Bandung, 17 Agustus 1962, ya beliau adalah Onno W. Purbo. Namanya yang begitu populer dengan berbagai rangkaian prestasi yang membanggakan, karya, dan banyak penghargaan yang seringkali menghiasi laman- laman media baik cetak, online, maupun TV. Onno begitula ia sering disapa, Beliau merupakan wisudawan terbaik Teknik Elektro ITB pada tahun 1987 yang kemudian melanjutkan studi magister dan doktoral di McMaster University, Kanada dan Universitas Waterloo, Kanada.

Pioner dunia IT yang menggagas program RT/ RW-Net ini ialah orang yang berjasa dengan adanya internet di Indonesia. Kiprahnya di bidang teknologi sudah tidak diragukan lagi. Pria yang suka berbagi ilmu untuk mencerdaskan bangsa dalam dunia IT ini banyak berpihak pada kesejahteraan masyarakat kecil sesuai ajaran yang diajarkan ayahnya, Hasan Poerbo, seorang Professor bidang lingkungan hidup ITB.

Ia juga yang memprakarsai pendirian Computer Network Research Group (CNRG) pada 1994. Di awal tahun 1999, ketika Onno mengepalai Perpustakaan Pusat ITB, ia membawa sempalan eksponen CNRG untuk mengembangkan pengelolaan perpustakaan di Knowledge Management Research Group (KMRG). Hasilnya, Digital Library & Library Network terbentuk. Jaringan ini merangkaikan sedikitnya 20 unit perpustakaan di seluruh Indonesia.

Keseharian pria yang sempat diberitakan menjadi kandidat Menteri Telekomunikasi oleh presiden SBY ini adalah menulis artikel dan puluhan buku yang bisa diunduh secara gratis oleh banyak orang. Ia lebih memilih jalur independen dibandingkan terikat dengan suatu perusahaan atau instansi. Kini, ia lebih menikmati dikejar-kejar deadline oleh media atas artikelnya dan organizer untuk mengisi workshop, konferensi, dan seminar bidang teknologi.
